Pentax Optio WPi Review
The Optio WPi is a simple looking camera from Pentax, and Pocket-lint gave it a nearly perfect 9/10.
Related Posts:Pentax has created the Optio WPi, a waterproof dustproof camera for all occasions. But has the camera got what it takes to help you snap a good shot and stay safe? We take a closer look.
With the ski slopes beckoning, you’ll need a digital camera that is going to serve you well and not get damaged when you stack it in the powder. Of course we aren’t expecting Pocket-Lint readers to be anything but perfect skiers or boarders, but you never know.

I have a major problem with the Pentax Optio WPi camera. After purchasing the camera, I got one day of picture taking in (about twenty images) before turning the camera off. The next morning, I tried to turn the camera on but it would try to start. The startup screen would display for about five seconds, would then fade a bit for about two seconds before shutting down. I fully charged the battery and made additional attempts to start the camera but was unsuccessful. I emailed tech support and they told me to try a remedy they had some success on cameras with this problem. I tried it but the camera would not start up and stay on. This camera was not dropped or mistreated in any way.
I did find that other people have had similar problems with this model and that Pentax has blamed it on customer neglect. I believe they are charging about $200.00 to “fix” the problem. People have been told that it is not covered under the camera’s warranty because it is from customer abuse. I am going to send it to the repair center and wait to see if they will fix it under the warranty.

I bought this camera and LOVED it for the first 3 weeks, and then, it completly stopped functioning! I had the exact same problem: It was in my hand at a wedding in perfect working order, turned it on about 10 minutes later, without putting it down, and exactly the same problem as the other customer complained. It would turn on for about 3 seconds, and then turn off with a beep. In the middle of a wedding and about to start a 3 month vacation, what an inconvience! And to top it off, it was blamed on an impact blow! I will have to pay almost $200 to get it repaired! But what a joke! It was in my hand working, and then 10 minutes later, not working. There needs to be a recall on this model!

I’ve had numerous problems with my WPi. I bought it while travleing through australia. About a month after purchasing, it began taking liney picuture. Meaning horizontal lines of pixels were missing from every image taken. About 2 weeks after the problem started while traveling through new zealand i figured out that i could sometimes temporarily fix the problem by shooting video and then bringing it back to picture mode. Once returning home (so i had an address) i was able to have it repaired under the international warrenty without a problem (only about 2-3 months of time without a camera!!). now again i am having a problem similar to those above me. The camera would not turn on properly, it did a beeping thing with the LCD screen not turning on. To be sure the battery was charged i took a freshly charged battery and the power light automatically turned on and it started doing a beep-beep, beep-beep continuing until the battery was removed. Once, the LCD did display the last image taken for a second. Only reappearing when the beeps would go again on their every few seconds intervals. I’m sick of sending it for repairs. Products should be made to work!

Hi I got my Pentax WPi few months ago. The problem? That this waterproof camera can’t work under water.
This camera failed more that 6 times the first two times I sent it to Pentax service… I got two Certifications of repair (exactly the same explanation of the problem). I request a new one but with negative results.
The third time I lost about 200 pictures during a trip to Cancun with my wife and my daugther. Thanks PENTAX for this.
The 4th, 5th and 6th times I just let the camera dry… The problem is that this camera works again after a week drying.
I don’t know to proceed to get my money back or to get a new camera. I don’t like it, (WPi) but I have a 2GB memory and I would like to use it in a safe camera.
Regards

we bought a pentax wpi just a few days ago and we have been using it for approximately 4 days when after taking one good sunset picture, the next sunset picture became liney as the above writer mentioned. as we are stuck in hawaii, it is a pain to have to try and get this repaired as we have no other cameras on us. another friend of mine is travelling the world with this camera (using it for over 9 months now) and they have never had this problem. This is the worst thing to happen when you are only travelling with that one camera and that camera dies on you.
