Olympus Stylus 710 Review

Olympus Stylus 710Digital Camera Resource Page has a reivew up for the Olympus Stylus 710, an ultra-compact digital camera in the 7.1 megapixel area.

The Stylus 710 is a very stylish, wedge-shaped ultra-compact camera. Olympus touts its scratchproof finish, and sure enough, the Stylus was the only metal camera to survive my ten camera Stanford trip without even a mark. Not only is the body scratchproof, but it’s also water resistant as well. While you can’t go swimming with it (without the optional underwater case, that is), the Stylus can get splashed, and since everything is sealed, dust, sand, and dirt stay out of the camera’s important parts too. The camera is well designed for the most part, though it would’ve been nice if some of the buttons were a little bit larger. The Stylus has a large 2.5″ LCD display that’s great in low light, but the 115,000 pixel resolution left something to be desired.

They say that the bottom line for this camera, is that it does not have the image quality of some of its competitors, and so it is probably one to avoid.

  1. Hi! I need an expert’s help. I bought the Olympus S710 two weeks ago. I was keeping it inside my purse and I took if out in order to take a picture, but when I turned it on, the LCD was all white with some dots and lines on it. Someone told me that it’s broken, but the camera never fell down or suffered any impact. It’s even intact on the outside and probably in the inside as well. Is it possible to have a damage like this even when the camera was carefully kept? Does the warranty cover this problems? If I have to pay for the reparation, how much would it cost? Thank you very much.

  2. Yes thats a cracked screen… there is no way warranty can cover it, as there was physical damage done by you not by the failure of the hardware it self. I think camera repair shops might fix the problem… as for the price i wouldnt be able to tell you…

  3. I purchased this camera 2 months ago. For no apparent reason, one day it decided it no longer wanted to take pictures when the flash was turned on or when the flash was automatic. It will take pictures just fine without the flash on except that a flashing green circle (movement?) appears next to the flashing red lightening symbol (which apparently means that my flash charge is low?) I have fully charged the battery and the situation is still the same. The camera will store the pictures seemingly without problems except for everything is a more blurry than it used to be. Any ideas? Who can I call or send it to?
