Nikon D50 Digital SLR
A new Nikon is in town and it is a 6 megapixel Digital SLR. Making entry into the Digital SLR world as easy as possible Nikon uses their great experiences to create a strong performing camera with a slim yet strong body. With seven easy to use modes for shooting, the camera screams simplicity without be so simple as to turn away professionals.
Improved image-processing algorithms over the D70 give the newer and cheaper Nikon SLR better noise characteristics and offer a better treatment of highlights.
The Nikon D50 uses Secure Digital Memory, unlike the Compact flash cards that the D70 uses, which means having to buy another type of memory if you already have the D70, and are wanting to use the D50 for a family shared Digital Camera.
One of the negatives about this camera is that its simplified controls are sometimes clumsy to use and the viewfinder is a little smaller than most, but at a sub-$900 price, those small compensations are worth it for most photographers looking to enter the Digital SLR realm.

I have a D70s, but I did look at the D50 for a while, it’s definately lighter, and smaller…but at the same time it almost felt like a toy to me. The side grip was way too small for my hand to be confortable, but I’m sure for someone without freakishly long fingers it would be a nice, confortable fit. But for the small difference in price (it’s sad that after all the camera shoping i did, i can honestly consider about $300 a “small difference” lol) the confort and sturdier contruction of the D70s made my choice for me. But that’s not to say the D50 isn’t a pretty sweet camera….especially at sub $1000 (not including a lens of course, which will run you at least a couple hundred bucks, and up to a couple grand…scary!).
