Samsung Announces Digimax L60

New Digimax L60 Offers MPEG-4 Video, SHD Optics and Redesigned Body

Samsung Digimax L60Secaucus, NJ (February 23, 2006) –Samsung Camera announces the introduction of the new Digimax L60. Part of the Prestige line featuring sleek designs and user-friendly advanced features, the L60 features a 3x optical zoom SHD lens, a 5x digital zoom and a large, 2.4-inch color LCD display.

“The Prestige line is perfect for the step-up user who desires high-quality optics but with easy to use features,” says Stewart Henderson, National Marketing Manager at Samsung Opto Electronics. “And, after extensive market research we developed a sleek, ergonomic body design with features such as MPEG4 video recording in a compact package.”

The Digimax L60 offers MPEG-4, the high-compression, high quality video format that can record for up to 3-4 times longer than traditional video formats commonly used in other digital cameras. The L60 can record in VGA (640×480) at 30fps, for smoother video and a bigger view of the movie on LCD and TV screens. For steady recording, the built-in movie stabilization will automatically detect and correct lateral and vertical camera movement caused by the shooter’s unsteady hand. Users can also take advantage of the camera’s unique movie shooting functions, including a movie stabilizer, continuous video recording, improved in-camera video editing and the ability to use the 3x optical zoom while recording. Movie stabilizer helps reduce camera shake by automatic detection and correction of lateral and vertical camera vibrations, while continuous video recording allows the shooter to pause and resume video recording at any time and merge multiple video files into one single file. Users can also save a selected part of a movie clip into a new file during playback and capture a still image during video playback.

Samsung Pro815 Review

Samsung Pro815Digital Photograpy Review looks over the Samsung Pro815, an SLR-styled super zoom digital camera.

The Pro815’s designers obviously decided that the key to success was to take the successful formula established by the likes of Panasonic with its FZ series and ’super size’ it in every way possible. Thus we have the world’s biggest zoom range, world’s biggest LCD screen, world’s highest capacity Li-Ion battery and a list of features as long as your arm - all in a single camera.

On paper the Pro815 offers an intriguing and compelling mix of features, but can it compete with its direct competitors, never mind the ever-increasing number of affordable SLRs on the market today? It certainly outdoes the Panasonic FZ30 in sheer feature terms, it has better controls for those who really like to play with settings, has bigger screen and a better electronic viewfinder. But there are a couple of areas where the Pro815 falls down seriously, even compared to the hardly perfect FZ30. One is focus speed and shutter lag, important if you like to grab shots quickly.

Samsung Digimax i5 Review

Samsung i5 Camera Town reviews the Samsung Digimax i5 digital camera, and they come to the conclusion that if you are looking for a pocket-thin camera that balances features and image quality, then the Samsung i5 should be on your list.

“Announced in May, the Digimax i5 is Samsung’s smallest digital camera and is housed in a stylish, stainless steel body that will be available in silver, black, and red. The camera is about the same width (3.53″) and height (2.35″) as a credit card and only .68″ thick - or should I say thin. Samsung has definitely designed the camera to be simple to operate by reducing buttons and confusion on the camera body itself. The clean, simple design will make it very comfortable for almost anyone to pick up and use. The Digimax i5 features a internal 3x optical zoom, which means that the lens doesn’t extend out like it does on many small cameras. This keeps the camera thin and compact even during use. Other features include a whopping 50MB of internal memory, full screen video (640×480, 30fps) mode with sound and zoom capability, and a bright, large 2.5″ TFT color display.”
