Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z60 Review
Pocket-lint, one of my favorite sites, has a review up on the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z60, a compact digital camera.
The Z60 also features a whopping 33 Best Shot (or scene or subject) modes, each tailored to specific tasks such as portraits, landscapes and the like. In fact this is where the Z60’s auto modes take over from the more manual control chores; it has so many of these Best Shot (BS) modes because they’re designed to take the guesswork out of the scene they’re designed to get the best of.
The Exilim Zoom EX-Z60 manages to earn an eight out of ten, being hindered by two points thanks to the flash providing unreliable controls, no manual shooting and noisy in shadows at higher ISO ratings.
Casio Breaks 10 Megapixel Barrier
Casio announced the Exilim EX-Z1000 today, a 10.1 Megapixel compact digital camera, the first manufacturer to break the 10 Megapixel barrier on a fixed-lens camera. While you have to remember that it is no longer about the megapixels anymore, but the quality of the image taken, it looks like it could restart the megapixel wars that manufacturers were going through a while back.
Exilim EX-Z1000 specs:
- 10.1 effective Megapixel 1/1.8″ CCD
- F2.8-5.4, 3X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 38 - 114 mm
- 2.8″ widescreen LCD display
- AF-assist lamp
- High sensitivity can crank the ISO all the way to 3200 (this one I’m going to have to see for myself)
- Anti-shake DSP (digital image stabilization)
- “Zoom Continuous Shutter mode allows the user to compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display and to take both shots simultaneously with only one press of the shutter button”
- Rapid Flash function enables up to three flash photos in one second
- New digital zoom system, similar to Smart Zoom or Extended Optical Zoom (on Sony/Panasonic cameras, respectively) lets you enlarge the photo at lower resolutions without affecting photo quality
- Point-and-shoot operation with a whopping 37 Best Shot (scene) modes
- Records movies at 640 x 480 (25 fps) with sound
- 8MB onboard memory + SD/MMC card slot
- Uses NP-40 lithium-ion battery; 360 shots per charge
We can expect to see the EX-Z1000 in June for a MSRP of $399 USD.
Casio Exilim EX-Z850 Review
Digital Photography Review took a look at the Casio Exilim EX-Z850 today, and found it filled with features.
Like the EX-Z750 before it, the EX-Z850 has much to commend it to the more serious photographer wanting a truly pocket-sized camera with real photographic control - in fact more so, given that the default settings produce images that lack the over-processed Technicolor look of its predecessor. It’s also got a much better screen, much better flash and a few genuinely useful new tricks up its sleeve to boot.
Although we haven’t had room here to cover in full the immense range of features on offer (there are, after all 34 ‘Best Shot’ modes) I hope you’ve got an idea of just how much functionality Casio has shoehorned into the EX-Z850’s slim, compact all-metal body.
In the end they recommend the camera thanks to the numerous features that it has in comparision to its compact competitors.
Casio Exilim Card EX-S600 Review
A 6 megapixel ultra-compact digital camera, the Casio Exilim Card EX-S600 was recently reviewed by Pocket-lint.
The 600 also plays host to a few neat technologies such as image stabilisation in both still and video recording the latter providing 640 x 480-pixel movies at 30fps and with audio.
Movies with sound are not the only things you’ll hear when using the 600, most of my mates where audibly impressed by the camera’s pocketable lines, with many an “ohh” and “ahh” being uttered as they turned the svelte little all-metal camera over in their hands. In addition, the 600 really is very small, its “Card” moniker very fitting as it is only 13.7mm wide at it’s thinnest point.
In the end they give the EX-S600 an eight out of ten. They mention a few little details with the camera that knocks it down those two points, the main one being that the screen becomes seriously hampered when taking outdoor shots.
Casio Exilim EX-Z120 Review
DigiCamReview reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z120, a pocket sized digital camera that is easy to use. It features a seven megapixel sensor and sports a two inch LCD on the back.
Image quality is good to very good, the images have very good colour, with good saturation, contrast and detail - although images are slightly soft, and could do with sharpening, either in camera or afterwards. The camera did a good job focusing - although the camera occasionally struggled in low-light, the majority of the time focusing in low-light was successful.
The camera is very easy to use, the menu system is easy to use and there is a good layout of buttons and controls. The camera speed is a mixed bag, with some aspects of the camera very quick, and others quite slow, in use the sluggishness isn’t that noticeable, and the very quick aspects are noticeable, such as the very quick menu response, the very quick playback mode, and the very quick shutter response.
It earns an overall rating of eight out of ten, though for value it earns a nine out of ten.
